Together with dozens of Trade Unions and Civil Rights Organisations, PES Common Candidate Nicolas Schmit engaged in an open discussion on the present and future of Europe and the world. Over the years, the Party of European Socialists has worked closely with trade unions and civil society to ensure that PES positions truly reflect the needs of society and that we protect the most vulnerable, workers, our planet and our democratic institutions.
Today he met with civil society organisations’ representatives in a meeting moderated by Sofie Stage (YES Secretary General) and with the participation of PES Secretary General, Giacomo Filibeck and PES Deputy Secretary General, Yonnec Polet.
“The far-right across Europe is trying to cripple the positions of the NGO’s as we now see in Hungary, Sweden, Finland. By standing against the far-right, we stand for you”, Nicolas Schmit said to the representatives of 54 civil society organisations who took part in the meeting. The consultation ended up as an open discussion between the NGO’s, the PES and the PES common candidate.
